Life in Pompano Beach: Beach, Pier, Restaurants, and What the City Is Becoming

Pompano Beach is a city in visible transformation. The downtown waterfront area around the pier has been rebuilt with new restaurants, a farmers market, public art, and the kind of energy that attracts younger residents and visitors. Five years ago this area felt tired; today it has a genuine scene.

The Pier and Downtown

The renovated Pompano Beach Pier is the social anchor. New restaurants including Salt 7, The Whale Deck, and various casual spots have replaced what was there before. Fishing off the pier is still a daily activity for residents. The outdoor space around the pier has become a legitimate gathering spot and the Wednesday farmers market is a community event.

The Beach

Pompano Beach’s beach is wide, well-maintained, and genuinely less crowded than Fort Lauderdale or Hollywood Beach on a typical day. The sand is good. The water is clear. There is enough infrastructure (parking, restrooms, beach chair rentals) without the chaos of higher-traffic beaches further south.

Dining Scene

The restaurant scene in Pompano has improved significantly and continues to grow. Beyond the pier area, the Sample Road corridor has diverse dining options. Lighthouse Point adjacent to the north has some of Broward’s better restaurants in a quieter setting. It is not Fort Lauderdale’s Las Olas but it is meaningfully better than it was.

Boating and Water Life

Pompano Beach has the same waterway access as Fort Lauderdale with less congestion on the water. The Hillsboro Inlet provides ocean access for boaters. The Pompano Beach Municipal Marina is a working marina with slips, fuel, and services. The boating culture here is real.
