Homestead

Gateway to the Everglades and the Keys, most affordable in Miami-Dade, fastest growing.

Homestead is the most affordable city in Miami-Dade and growing faster than almost anywhere else in the county. You're at the edge of the Everglades, a short drive to the Florida Keys, and surrounded by farmland and nurseries that give it a completely different character from the rest of Miami-Dade. The military presence (Homestead Air Reserve Base) brings a stable population. SFH median is around $450K-$550K. New construction is active, DR Horton, Lennar, and others are building communities here. The downsides: it's 45-50 minutes to downtown Miami, the area can flood badly in hurricanes, and flood insurance costs are significant. But for first-time buyers or anyone who wants space and can work remotely, Homestead is the entry point to Miami-Dade homeownership.
